Disability and Additional Learning Needs (ALN) classes
Our goal is to promote inclusivity within the Welding and Engineering industry. There are obstacles to negotiate both on a training and industry basis(if a Welding career is what your looking for). Our training centre has only 7 welding bays compared to others having 10+, each has an adjustable table which can be raised and lowered to suit the individual. Smaller groups allow the training program to be adapted to suit individual needs. This in turn gives a better learning experience as less time is spent waiting on instruction/guidance.
As welding is one of the country's highly required trades due to shortages, companies are adapting their facilities to become more accessible. This is opening up more opportunities to break through into the industry. There are very few women or people with ALN/Disabilities within the industry so now is the time.
If you feel like welding is something you would be interested in, get in touch and we can discuss options. A taster session/day maybe a good way to assess your abilities and requirement by creating a seasonal or personal project. The goal is to help you enjoy your experience and explore opportunities. Welding isn't just an industry job, its a creative outlet which can go as far as your imagination/skill level allows. Lets explore every avenue and overcome the barriers created by society.
As well as the practical side, welding also has a lot of mental health benefits. The physical, repetitive motion allows for the brain to access different emotions. PTSD is one of my personal battles that welding has allowed me to process and overcome. It can be compared to watching a fire, lava lamp or an aquarium. The repetitive movements can also help build and maintain muscle memory which should help people with diseases such as Parkinson's. This is not something that is proven but after watching family members suffer with them it is my belief that welding sessions could help.
If this is something you would like to try then get in touch. Both daytime and evening sessions will be available to accommodate as many people as possible.
